WAYFARE ADVENT
Wayfare seeks personal essays; art; poetry; reflections on film, scripture, art, music; prayers; practices; short fiction; profiles and more for our recurring Advent series.
For this series, we are looking for work exploring your experiences with the Advent themes of hope, peace, joy, and love.
Work themed around Advent and Christmas might explore one or more of the three “comings” of Christ—in the past to Bethlehem, in the present to our hearts and lives, and/or in the future in glory. Submissions might directly explore the stories of Elisabeth, Zacharias, John the Baptist, Mary, Joseph, Bethlehem, Angels, Shepherds, The Magi, etc, but do not have to. We are particularly interested in work utilizing the uniquely feminine themes of the Biblical Advent and Christmas stories—infertility, pregnancy, expectation, midwifery, labor, birthing, and more. You can find our previously published Advent work here.
Wayfare writing is characterized by curiosity, expansiveness, thoughtfulness, playfulness, humility, and a commitment to faith, hope, and charity through beautiful language.
DEADLINE
Pieces are accepted on a rolling basis, but we encourage you to submit early; decisions on what to publish each year are made in early November.
WORD COUNT
For essays and fiction, 500-2000 is ideal.
