The Body of Christ is formed by those who desire to join Christ in the work of the atonement by vicariously making restitution for sin.
It looks like a random thought, but vicarious restitution (e.g. dying for the sins of others) is the essence of the atonement and it becomes our work as members of the body. This is Mosiah 18:8-17.
