My Aunt Judy ate 26 hot dogs at a contest.

It was a hot dog eating contest and before she entered the contest my grandma said, “Judy let’s not do that.”

We were at the kitchen table. Me, Mom, Judy and my grandma. It was almost Christmas so we were supposed to be baking treats for the neighbors but then Judy said, “I have an announcement.”

Judy is not married. She works as an attendant at Maverick gas station part time and gets me free slushees all I want. She’s obsessed with beta fish and she once was on a TV game show but she got out in the first round.

Grandma was looking at a recipe on her phone.

“What’s the announcement?” Mom said.

“I am entering a hot dog eating contest.”

Grandma looked up and without asking any questions, without wondering why there would be a hot dog eating contest in the middle of December, she said, “Judy, let’s not do that.”

“It’s for the children, mother.”

“It’s for the who?”

“The children.”

“What are you talking about,” Grandma said.

“Yeah, what are you talking about,” Mom said.

I ate a handful of chocolate chips and watched.
