When I first read the Memorial while reading Pensees in my mid 40's with Leszek Kolakowski, I was moved to deep tears. I had already thought that Pascal's written words were remarkably without guile. I don't know of any other written statement that impresses me more than the Memorial for its utter honesty. It tops Dostoevsky in its passionate intensity. It tops Joseph Smith in its psychological truthfulness. It is scripture to me. I am grateful to Pascal's sister for sharing his private devotion with the world. As a Latter-day Saint--once in a decade--I have had an experience with the symbols I wear hidden on my chest that might be one/tenth as powerful as Pascal's. He is my beloved theological adversary (a Jansenist), whose place in the highest (by my feeble lights) is assured.

“Condescending” indeed! The apostasy is not over— neither is the restoration. Thank you for sharing such enlightening treasures about our early Christian brothers and sisters.
